Biography

A native and lifelong resident of Durham NC — Activisim, arts and outreach has been a constant for this arts and entertainment entrepreneur.

An artist, musician and prolific writer, Mr. Brodie continues to create through many modes of expression on matters of the human condition.

While working as a 911 communications officer in the 1990s, the shooting death of a small child inspired him to create the Durham Homicide Memorial Quilt along with other thought provoking works of art.

In spring of 2017 Mr. Brodie began bringing the 20 year old quilt (which had grown to over 60 feet in length) to vigils and other such events in and around Durham in an effort to give the people of Durham a sense of what nearly 800 murders over a 20 year period looks like on this earthly plane.

His prayer is to ultimately retire the quilt to a specialized museum/center for social change. But until that day the quilt will continue to serve as a conversation starter on the subject of violence and its root causes. On the subject of rampant homicides—at the very least this effort strives to bring about a decline in the frequency of these occurrences.
